Fingerwaves

Product List and Tools:

  • hair gel
  • water in spray bottle
  • towel
  • paddle brush
  • pin tail comb
  • sectioning clips
  • hair grips
  • curling tong
  • heat protection spray
Some Facts:
  • usage of loads of hair gel( or water) is needed for the moulding
  • you can also use mousse or setting lotion
  • setting lotion: mix between hard/soft finish
  • mousse: brushes out easily
  • gel: hard texture
Classic Finger waves
Steps:
  • apply a lot of gel into the hair starting from the roots and brush/comb it through the hair
  • decide on which way you want to lay it
  • do a slight side parting
  • then hold your hand on the top of the head and with the pin tail comb push the hair to the chosen side-> push/lift it up a bit before you push it over
  • work the shape along the head so it is on the same level/height and then do the next row
  • you can use the sectioning clips to help keeping the shape in place while you move on to the next row and while it is setting
  • keep going with the moulding until you reach a point where you can't shape it anymore - around lower ear height - and then either curl the rest of the hair or roll it into a curl and secure with a grib for setting

Only S-Bend:
Steps:
  • prepare the hair like you would for the classic finger waves and decide where you want your parting to be
  • then shape the hair into s waves with your fingers only-> again you can use sectioning clips to help keep it place while it is setting
  • for the leftover har you can roll it into a curls again and put a grib in for setting

Finger waves using heat:
Steps:
  • brush hair thoroughly and apply some heat protection spray
  • decide on which side your side parting is going(which will be your main side?)
  • you can either use small rollers or a tong-> I used a tong
  • section off the hair into same sized sections
  • I did around 4 sections down at the very front and afterwards 5 sections
  • clip hair into tong and curl it in inwards
  • after removing the tong secure the curls with the sectioning clips and let them in until the curls are cooled down

  • afterwards dress out the hair with the denman brush-> don't be shy when it comes to dressing out(brushing out) the hair
  • you can backcomb if you want to
  • manipulate the hair with the pin tail comb to get it into a finger wave like shape
  • the curls will be softer than for the actual finger wave
  • set the hair with sectioning clips and setting spray while you do the models makeup but remember to put some tissue or your business cards between the clips and the hair to avoid any harsh lines

->I found this lesson very helpful as having the knowledge on how to do finger waves will be very important for the future but it is definitely something I need to practice more
->as I couldn't see the demo properly I was a bit confused in the beginning and wasn't sure what exactly I had to do but it turned out that the classic finger wave is actually not too complicated; I would say my first try wasn't too bad
-> actually I found it way harder to do the s-bend wave only, that's something I really need to practice during my off time in the summer
-> I started with the heat finger waves because I figured they would be the easiest and the curling was quite easy but when it comes to dressing out hair I always get a bit scared that I will ruin the curl; also I found it a bit difficult to manipulate the hair into a s-shape using the pin tail comb
-> that just means practice, practice and practice!!
