Natural Beauty Hair- Beach Hair

Product List:

  • sea salt spray
  • water in a spray bottle
  • curling tong
  • hair dryer with diffuser
  • sectioning clips
  • pin tail comb
  • hair straightener

Beach Waves using a hair dryer with diffuser

Steps:
  • start of with wetting down the hair with the water spray bottle and add also a good amount of sea salt spray
  • then using the hair dryer and diffuser dry the hair but while you are drying it, keep kind of kneading the hair while blow drying so it becomes wavy
  • keep going until hair is completely dry

Beach waves using a curling tong

Steps:
  • again apply a good amount of sea salt spray into the hair
  • section off the hair
  • for my practice I only did a few sections on top of the head but realistically you would start with the section at the bottom and work upwards
  • depending on what kind of look you want to achieve you could do various sized sections
  • take the curling tong and wrap the hair around it-> don't roll it up like we used to do when we are normally curling hair
  • also depending on how you wrap the hair around the curl will be slightly different
  • again depending on the size of the sections you get bigger curls or smaller ones
  • let the curls cool down and shake then out

Beach waves by twisting the hair and using a straightener

Steps:
  • add sea salt spray into the hair
  • section off the hair and twist each section, here you have two options: a) take the section and twist it b) separate the section into two sections and twist each section->then twist both twisted sections together
  • the take the hair straightener and go over the twisted parts
  • let it cool down and shake out the hair

Advert Day Look Practice

Unfortunately today's shoot for my eye shadow advert look was a complete failure.
The eye shadow advert was my second shoot today and the makeup actually didn't look too bad after I applied it but after looking at the images I realized that those colours first of all didn't suit my model at all and secondly the skin tone was supposed to be very pale, even though my model was already pale, it was not the skin tone I had in mind. It was first quite frustrating that it didn't work out but then again it's also good because I learned from it as well. I learned that I show more consideration when designing a look and choosing a model. Because like here, not all of the colours suit everybody. Also if I would have done a practice of the makeup on the actual model I probably would have noticed earlier that my colour scheme doesn't go with her but then again as my model is from London and was busy with her projects for her final year I didn't have the chance to test my designs on her. Therefore I am treating this shoot now as a practice shoot and know now exactly what I need to change for my design to work. First of all I need to change the model and get someone who is very pale and I actually already have someone in mind. But I also need to look for a different yellow eye shadow as I wasn't happy with the outcome of the yellow on camera. Or maybe I just have to apply this yellow eye shadow with water to make the colour more intense.

Here are some images of the shoot.

As you can see the yellow is not really showing up and yes the colours are not very flattering on her skin. Another thing I didn't like was actually the straight hair. For this specific look I wanted straight hair but my models hair is actually naturally curly and yes the straight also didn't suit her. So maybe I should overthink my hair idea as well

Advanced Plaiting and Braiding

This post will cover the Dutch Braid, Waterfall and Ladder Braid and the 5-8-11 Strand Braid.

Things you need:

  • paddle brush
  • pin tail comb
  • hair gribs
  • hair elastics

The Dutch Braid

The dutch braid is basically just the opposite to the the french braid. Instead of taking the hair over your take the hair underneath so that in the end the braid will stand out.
But as I am not good at explaining I will add a step by step image.

The Waterfall and Ladder Braid

I will try my best to explain how to do it but I will, again, add a tutorial for better understanding. Personally I need to see how things are done instead of just reading how something is done.
For the Waterfall braid you start ideally at the front and make 3 same sized sections. You start of plaiting like you would do normally but then you leave the right strand out and take it down to the front. At this point if would be good to have someone who can help you and hold the strands that are going out like the one just one. Then you take a new section and add it into your plaiting and redo everything all over again. You could then end the braid at the back of the head or wherever you want it to end.

In the image below you can see how to do the Waterfall braid using different kinds of braiding techniques like Dutch braid, 2-5 strands braid, etc

If you then want to turn it into a Ladder braid you just need to add  some more rows of waterfall braiding like you can see in those images. Also you can start off with doing a normal braid  and plait it down for a couples of centimeters like in the the image above or you do it like in the image below where you start straight from the hairline again.

5-8-11 Strand Braids

For the 5 strand braid you start off with making 5 same sized sections. Then starting from the right you take the outer strand(5) over the 4th strand and under the 3rd. Then you go to the left side and take the 1st strand over the 2nd and take it under the 3rd.  Keep redoing those steps until you run out of hair. Tie the hair with an elastic.

In the last image I pulled the hair apart so it will be easier to add the new strands for the 8 and 11 strand part.

After finishing the 5 strand bit you go over to the 8 strand part. For this you can either start with the left or right side. I started with the right side and sectioned off 3 more strands and first was plaiting normally and then add the left strand into the outer strand of the 5 strand braid. As said you take the left strand and pull it through/ in down and out again/ the loop of the outer 5 strand side.

For the 11 strand bit you just do the same as now but just on the other side.

-> the only new thing for me during this lesson was how to do the 5-8-11 strand braid as I did the other in a workshop before.
-> when doing the 5 strand I was first a bit confused with what strand goes over and which goes under-> this was very frustrating as I kept doing it wrong and the braid looked funny and I just couldn't figure out what was wrong until I realized that I was taking the one of the strands over instead of under but after figuring out the right way the 5 strand braid is quite easy.
-> the 8-11 bit is also not too complicated but I will still need to practice those more as they still look very unclean

Final Images
(Black Back Drop)

So I used the images with the black back drop as my final images but I also took some in front of a white back drop. But I found that the white didn't suit the mood of my design .

White Back Drop

Assessment Evaluation:
Overall I am very pleased with the end result of my timed assessment. I only practiced where to place the gems stones on myself before and never did the whole look so therefore I was a was a bit worried that even though it looked good on the face chart may look completely different on an actual face.I think it was a good decision to use Rosie as my model as fits this design perfectly and it could have probably gone very wrong if a different person would have been my model. I also like the contrast that was created through Rosie's blue hair and my makeup design. Even though there was a contrast it went very well together. During the times assessment I didn't have any problems with the application or time. In fact I was the first to finish , which actually surprised me a bit as I had to apply a lot of  gems stones. I am also relived how the gloss turned out in the images and that it didn't create any greasy lines. But then again I did apply the gloss just before taking the images to prevent that from happening. Now I just hope that I will be able to recreate this look for my final catwalk shoot. I think the key aspects for a good second shoot are that the positioning of the gems and lashes are the "same"(very similar) and that I get the nice even foundation again and to achieve the right amount of highlighter. Also for the next time I have to make sure that there is nor flying hair anywhere and that the middle parting is actually in the middle.
