Classic Shapes and Silhouettes

 Products and Tools needed:

  • paddle brush/denman brush
  • pin tail comb
  • hair gribs
  • hair elastic/ hair bungee
  • gel spray
  • sea salt spray
  • hair spray optional
  • tong
The first part of this post will be the Sleek Ponytail.

Sleek Ponytail:
Steps:
  • apply gel spray or sea salt spray into the hair->gets rid of wispy bits
  • then blow dry the hair backwards which will help getting rid of the parting
  • push all of the hair backwards and then from the temple on take a section to the ear -> from there take the pin tail comb to the highest point( point where both sides meet will be the highest point of the ponytail)
  • pin away the top section for later
  • add more product into the hair at the back
  • with the denman brush take the hair into a ponytail-> take it up to the highest point
  • using a hair bungee secure the ponytail
  • then go back to the front section and brush through it again and if needed add some more product
  • take the hair back over and make sure it is sleek
  • when adding it to the lower part of the ponytail make sure you don't see any lines on the sides-> it needs to blend in
  • using another hair bungee combine the two sections into one ponytail
  • Hair bungee: How to use-> using the hook on one side ,hook it into the hair and wrap it around tightly and secure with the second hook
  • take a more longer strand from the ponytail, backcomb it and add hairspray
  • wrap the strand around like a hair band and secure it with a hair pin
  • add more hairspray overall for better hold

Sleek Ponytail with Volume in the front:
Steps:
  • do all of the steps until you come to the front section just like in the normal Sleek ponytail version
  • when you come to the front backcomb the front starting from the hairline-> otherwise you will get a weird bump later
  • again add more product into hair if needed
  • when you finished the backcombing shape the hair into a nice rounded shape
  • take back the hair and make sure to blend it in well-> no lines on the sides
  • using a hair bungee combine both parts again( top part and lower ponytail)
  • take a strand from the ponytail , backcomb, hairspray it and wrap around the hair bungee
  • secure with hair pin

French Pleat
Steps:
  • from the temples take a square section off to the crown point
  • when you actually do this on a proper model (did mine on a dolls head) you should prep the hair properly before starting
  • you can use either hot rollers or tongs
  • in today's lesson curl the top and back section
  • front: after curling the hair leave them to cool down, then backcomb the front sections-> but not too much
  • comb the front section to the back and do a slight twist-> secure with hair gribs
  • back:comb out the rest of the hair and take it all to one side( decide to which side you are taking it beforehand)
  •  just after passing the middle part insert kirby gribs going up in a straight line; the last grib goes in the opposite way so the hair can't glide out-> to make sure it is more secure you could also criss cross the kirby gribs
  • take all of the hair in your hand and turn it over and kind of roll it in
  • using u-shaped grib pin it in slightly to keep it in place and the adjust the twist to the right position-> add more pins while you are adjusting
  • for the middle part add an extra kirby grib
  • if needed sort out the top bit a bit more-> where top twist and french pleat meet

Editorial French Pleat:
Steps:
  • leave the back as it is after doing the french pleat and only take off the top section
  • for the top section you can curl it, heavily backcomb it , make it messy, etc
  • make it look editorial
  • for my editorial version I decided to just backcomb the curls that were already in the top front section and make it stand up

-> today I did a french pleat for the second time and it was much more easier on the dolls head. When I first did on my model had really thick hair so it was very difficult to roll the back part in and make it stay in place
-> also it was nice to learn another way to do a sleek ponytail as it can be hard when having thick hair to get everything evenly in just one go
